a brief review of every album i have ever listened to *

hold on now, youngster... | los campesinos! | fucking incredible album from the best band ever. however, "2007: the year punk broke (my heart)" is the only miss this band has ever written, so unfortunately this album is not perfect. but for the first album the band ever made? holy shit they popped off |
![]() |
we are beautiful, we are doomed | los campesinos! | this is my favourite band of all time, and this is probably my favourite album of theirs. absolute fucking bangers all the way through, no questions |
![]() |
romance is boring | los campesinos! | while there are no bad songs on this album, some just fon't feel as memorable as others. there are some albums that i can name off every song in order because they're so good, but this just isn't one of them. but, some of the best songs to come from lc! are from this album, so don't get me wrong, it's still incredible |
![]() |
hello sadness | los campesinos! | similar to romance is boring, there are highs and lows. although, none of the highs feel as monumental, and the lows not as forgettable. a bit of an allrounder, but still a wonderful album, albeit not the best from lc! |
![]() |
no blues | los campesinos! | this album fucks hard, even though this is when the band lost the violin, which i really enjoyed. there's a bit of a lull with "the time before the last time" i personally just don't vibe with it as intensely as the other tracks, but quickly picks up with one of the best final tracks on an album of all time. everything else goes extremely hard |
![]() |
sick scenes | los campesinos! | every song on this album is consistently very good, but none of them really leave my soul shaking like some of the other songs from lc! if i had to introduce someone to the band, this would probably be the album i'd start them with |
![]() |
whole damn body | los campesinos! | i'm pretty sure this is a bunch of songs rejected from hello sadness. i'm guessing it's because they didn't fit the vibe, because these have a little bit less of a depressing sound to them. and to be honest, i like that, even more than hello sadness. it's a little short, obviously, but what's there is pretty fire |
![]() |
all hell | los campesinos! | holy shit this album is so fucking good. i love that there's more focus on the electric guitar (because i'm a guitarist). there's more interlude type songs than usual, but it doesn't retract from the album at all, it still feels full. every song goes so hard it's insane. it's probably my second favourite, behind "we are beautiful, we are doomed" |

good kid | good kid | yes, it's an ep not an album. no, i don't care. anyway these guys are pretty good. for their first music release, this is fire, no misses, but not exactly outstanding. it's humble beginnings i guess |
![]() |
good kid 2 | good kid | not exactly creative with their ep names. music itself makes up for it though. again, this is fire with no misses but nothing exceptional, although i do like it more than the first good kid ep |
![]() |
good kid 3 | good kid | this is where things start to pick up a lot. the songs on this ep have more uniqueness, and are more recognisable as their own song. also, madeleine is an extremely powerful closing song |
![]() |
good kid 4 | good kid | now this is where they turn it up to eleven. basically, good kid have only improved, and this is where it culminates into something that hits hard as fuck. every song is it's own, and are all bangers. even their cover of "from the start" feels like their own song in a way. i do think the single "ground" deserved a place here though |
![]() |
marvin's marvelous mechanical museum | tally hall | because all of the songs on this album are wildly different, you'd expect it to be a bit up and down. nope! they are all fucking incredible! sure, some i like more than others, but none of them are bad. the wacky style of tally hall, and specifically this album, is something i very much vibe with |
![]() |
good & evil | tally hall | because this album has a bit more of a centralised theme, everything flows together very nicely, which makes a great album, even if the chaos of marvin's was a strength of the tally hall style. but there are just as many, if not more songs that feel extrasensory. for example, "fate of the stars" pries open my third eye, what a closing track |

hawaii: part ii | ミラクルミュージカル (miracle musical) |
this album is a life changing one, at least it was for me and i presume many others. i would call it a perfect album, if you skip labyrinth. i know some people would crucify me for that take, but i can't change the fact that i am a certified labyrinth hater. but to focus on the perfect parts of the album, everything else is absolutely transcending. i cannot put into words how beautiful this album is to me, so i won't continue to try |

whatever people say i am, that's what i'm not | arctic monkeys | this is a pretty good album, it represents the rock sound of the arctic monkeys pretty well. that being said, you can definitely tell it's their first album. they still slap pretty hard, just not as hard as it could if they were more experienced, it would benefit from a remaster or something |
![]() |
favourite worst nightmare | arctic monkeys | this is my favourite album overall by arctic monkeys. it hits hard, it hits fast, it's lyrically interesting, it's got it all. that being said, "d is for dangerous" is criminally short, it's a banger that deserved three minutes at least |
![]() |
humbug | arctic monkeys | this album has what are probably my favourite songs by arctic monkeys, "crying lightning" and "the jeweller's hands" but the rest of the album ends up falling short because of that. also, what's the deal with "i haven't got my strange"? it's a bonus track and only 1:30 despite being an absolute banger for that minute and a half |
![]() |
am | arctic monkeys | this is a very good album, most of the songs are pretty fucking sick. love that the lyrics really feel poetic, but they didn't sacrifice any of their musical style to fit it in. however, scorching hot take, "i wanna be yours" gives me the ick and i wish it wasn't on the album. and i'd rather the album end with "snap out of it" |
![]() |
muse | polyphia | polyphia rocks hard, but their first album is the worst of their discogrophy. not that it's bad, it all sounds very cool and is an excellent display of the band's mastery over their instrument, but in a some places it feels like they're just trying to fit in as many notes in a short timeframe as possible |
![]() |
renaissance | polyphia | in this album, they lose the downsides of muse while keeping the same djent-esque sound. very good! although, it still feels like it's missing the spark that their later works have |
![]() |
the most hated | polyphia | this is when polyphia changed their style, and it is much cooler! it's unique, it sounds great, it has that high amount of notes per measure that the old stuff has, without feeling out of place. very harmonically interesting, and probably some of my favourite works by the band. "the worst" makes an incredible outro |
![]() |
new levels new devils | polyphia | much of the same thoughts here as "the most hated" the new style is very unique and harmonically interesting, but this time there's more songs! also, bringing on new artists led to even more variety, but the artists they chose to bring on didn't feel out of place |
![]() |
remember that you will die | polyphia | this album also brings on other artists too, but some of them do feel out of place this time. this album is a bit hit or miss. some of them are exceptional, but some are kinda meh. i will concede that some of my favourites from this band are on this album though |
![]() |
everything is a lot | will wood and the tapeworms | this album is like, slightly better than average all around. peaks in the first song, "6up 5oh Cop-Out (Pro / Con)" which is an absolute banger, and everything else is pretty okay. doesn't make my ears bleed, but i'm not keen on it |
![]() |
SELF-iSH | will wood and the tapeworms | now this album fucks severely hard. every single song on this album is such a banger, i love the more high-octane, chaotic vibe. the general themes of identity struggles are something that scratches my soul a bit too |
![]() |
the normal album | will wood | this album is pretty good. a little less crazy than the earlier albums, but still interesting. the remaster, under the title "the new normal!" sounds a lot better, most noticeable to me in the second half of "suburbia overture" which is one of my favourites from the album. |
![]() |
"in case i make it," | will wood | not the biggest fan of this album. it loses all of the energy and chaos i liked about the previous albums. i understand that's the point, but it makes for music that i don't really enjoy. there are a couple songs i like though, "the main character" and "cicada days" namely |
![]() |
fight like apes and the mystery of the golden medallion | fight like apes | it's hard to judge this critically because it's a very nostalgic album for me. regardless, i like this album a lot. my exposure to it in my youth definitely shaped how my music taste formed - that taste being alt rock with weird noises, so it has a particular spot in my brain. i don't dislike any of the songs on the album, they are all great |
![]() |
the body of christ and the legs of tina turner | fight like apes | i listened to the other albums in fight like apes' discography later in life than their first, and they didn't hit as hard as i hoped. don't get me wrong, nothing is unpleasant and i find myself jamming whenever a song from this album plays, but none of them are particularly memorable to me |
![]() |
fight like apes | fight like apes | much like "the body of christ and the legs of tina turner" i listened to this later in life and it didn't hold up to the standards of my rose tinted glasses. that being said, the songs on this album are more memorable, i can think of favourites of the top of my head, examples being "pretty keen on centrefolds" "carousel" |
![]() |
good health | pretty girls make graves | this is a powerful first album, i love it. it's heavy, it's angry, it's punk, it's an awesome album. not my favourite of the band's work but that does not mean i dislike it by any means. also i am a certified sad girl for life |
![]() |
the new romance | pretty girls make graves | now this fucks. it's easily my favourite album of theirs. it's the perfect mid point between their other two albums that hits the sweetspot of not too lax, but not boring. none of the songs miss, it's all incredible. |
![]() |
elán vital | pretty girls make graves | this is when the band wound down just a tad too much. the hyperness of their previous music was an important part of the sound for me. that being said, it's all still very good, it just doesn't hit as hard as it could. they do some interesting things though! never thought an accordion would work so well in post-punk |
* probably not every album i have ever listened to
